Method & notes
Malaysia is #2/9 in the verified 2023 ASEAN subset by registered-carrier air freight.
METHOD & LIMITATIONSHow the numbers were calculated
PulseKita requests World Bank indicator IS.AIR.GOOD.MT.K1 for all 11 ASEAN members and fixes the comparison to 2023, the latest year shown on the World Bank series. Older observations are not carried forward.
- Malaysia records about 1910.1 million ton-km of air freight in 2023 and ranks #2/9 among ASEAN members returned for the same year.
- Not shown for 2023: Lao PDR, Timor-Leste.
- This indicator measures freight carried on each flight stage by registered air carriers. It is not airport cargo tonnage and should not be mixed with airport-level throughput statistics.
- Air freight favours high-value and time-sensitive cargo, so it answers a different logistics question from container-port throughput.
