METHOD & LIMITATIONS

How the numbers were calculated

PulseKita requests World Bank indicator IS.SHP.GOOD.TU for all 11 ASEAN members and fixes the comparison to 2024. Values are converted from TEU to million TEU. Countries without a 2024 observation are not backfilled with older years.

Malaysia handled about 30.7 million TEU in 2024 and ranks #2/8 among ASEAN members returned for the same year.
Not shown for 2024: Brunei Darussalam, Lao PDR, Timor-Leste.
Port throughput measures container volume handled, not port efficiency, dwell time, shipping connectivity or the domestic value of the cargo.
Landlocked Lao PDR does not have seaport container throughput in this indicator; missing values are not converted to zero.
