Method & notes
The 65+ share helps explain different future pressures on labour supply, healthcare, housing and household support across states.
METHOD & LIMITATIONSHow the numbers were calculated
PulseKita sums DOSM five-year age groups beginning at age 65 and divides that total by each state's both-sex, all-ethnicity population for the same year.
- This is a population-age-structure measure, not life expectancy or health status.
- Historical age-group granularity changes across the long series, but the 65+ threshold can still be constructed from the published older-age groups.
- Federal territories enter the series in different years because of Malaysia's administrative history.
