Method & notes
State fertility rates add a forward-looking demographic signal beside current population size and household statistics.
METHOD & LIMITATIONSHow the numbers were calculated
PulseKita filters DOSM's state fertility dataset to age_group='tfr', which is the total fertility rate calculated from age-specific fertility rates.
- TFR is a period measure: it describes the number of children a hypothetical woman would have if current age-specific fertility rates persisted.
- It is not the actual completed family size of women currently living in each state.
- Birth registration records from JPN and DOSM population estimates underpin the published rates.
