Method & notes
Crude death rate is a useful demographic signal when read together with fertility, population age and healthcare capacity.
METHOD & LIMITATIONSHow the numbers were calculated
PulseKita uses the crude death rate published by DOSM and JPN in the annual deaths-by-state dataset.
- The state refers to the usual residence of the deceased, not necessarily the place where the death occurred.
- Crude death rates are strongly affected by population age structure, so a higher rate does not by itself mean worse healthcare.
- The series is based on registered deaths; DOSM applies an adjustment for under-reporting in Sabah according to its published methodology.
