Malaysia ranks #2/8 in the verified 2024 ASEAN ICT-goods export-share subset; MATRADE separately reports RM387.98 billion of Malaysian semiconductor-device, IC, transistor and valve exports.

METHOD & LIMITATIONS

How the numbers were calculated

PulseKita requests World Bank indicator TX.VAL.ICTG.ZS.UN for all ASEAN members and fixes the race to 2024. ICT goods include computers and peripherals, communications equipment, consumer electronics, electronic components and other IT goods. The source-backed fallback preserves only members with a verified 2024 value; Viet Nam, Lao PDR and Timor-Leste are not backfilled from 2023.

  • Malaysia's ICT-goods export share is 35.2%, ranking #2/8 among ASEAN members with a verified 2024 value.
  • The ICT-goods definition includes electronic components, but it is broader than semiconductors. It should not be described as a semiconductor-only ASEAN ranking.
  • MATRADE reports Malaysia's 2024 E&E exports at RM601.21 billion. Semiconductor devices, integrated circuits, transistors and valves accounted for RM387.98 billion, or 64.5% of Malaysia's E&E exports.
  • The MATRADE semiconductor figure is Malaysia-only national trade context. It is not inserted into the UNCTAD/World Bank ASEAN ICT-share race because the classifications and denominators differ.
