IN BRIEF

This is a student-involvement crime series, not a school-premises crime rate; the distinction matters when reading the trend.

METHOD & LIMITATIONS

How the numbers were calculated

PulseKita reproduces the annual primary- and secondary-school figures stated by KDN/PDRM in a June 2024 written Parliamentary reply. The two school levels are kept separate and the total shown in context is their sum.

  • This series is about criminal cases involving school students; the Parliamentary reply does not state that every offence occurred physically on school premises.
  • PDRM identified motorcycle theft, other theft and causing hurt among the higher-frequency index-crime offences involving students.
  • Do not combine this series with KPM's SSDM 'salah laku jenayah' counts: the agencies, recording systems and definitions are different.
  • The source does not explain whether reporting or recording methodology changed between 2021 and 2022, so the sharp increase should not be assigned a cause from these numbers alone.
