IN BRIEF

The chart shows recorded SSDM cases, not a direct prevalence rate; changes in reporting and compliance matter when interpreting the trend.

METHOD & LIMITATIONS

How the numbers were calculated

PulseKita compiles official KPM figures stated in Parliamentary records. The 2021 and 2022 figures come from KPM's November 2023 Dewan Rakyat reply; the later full-year totals use subsequent KPM/Parliament records, including 6,528 cases for 2023, 7,681 for 2024 and 2,889 for 2025. This is a case-count series, not a count of unique students.

  • 2021 was still affected by movement-control and pandemic-era schooling, so it is not a normal baseline.
  • KPM has said higher recording can reflect increased awareness and compliance with reporting requirements, especially after its 2023 bullying-management guideline.
  • The 2025 total is lower than 2024, but the series alone cannot establish that underlying bullying prevalence fell; reporting behaviour, enforcement and school recording practices can also affect the count.
  • Some Parliamentary material cites 3,883 for 2022, while KPM's November 2023 direct reply recorded 3,887. PulseKita uses the direct KPM reply and keeps the four-case discrepancy disclosed here.
  • Do not substitute the separate 'students involved' series for this case series: one is cases, the other counts students.
