IN BRIEF

The same-year comparison remains unavailable rather than backfilling older observations.

METHOD & LIMITATIONS

How the numbers were calculated

PulseKita requests World Bank indicator EG.EGY.PRIM.PP.KD for all 11 ASEAN members and fixes the comparison to 2022. Lower values mean less primary energy is used per unit of PPP-adjusted GDP. Older observations are not carried forward.

  • The official World Bank API did not return a usable same-year 2022 ASEAN energy-intensity comparison on this request.
  • Not shown for 2022: Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Viet Nam, Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Timor-Leste.
  • Lower energy intensity can indicate less energy used per unit of output, but the World Bank notes that climate, economic structure and other factors also affect this measure.
  • Energy intensity is therefore an imperfect proxy for energy efficiency, not a complete efficiency score.
