Method & notes
IN BRIEF

State GDP shows where production happens; it should be read alongside population, wages and household-income data rather than as a direct measure of residents' living standards.

METHOD & LIMITATIONS

How the numbers were calculated

PulseKita filters DOSM's state supply-side GDP dataset to absolute values (series='abs') and overall GDP (sector='p0'), then ranks states for each year.

  • Real GDP removes price effects using constant 2015 prices, so it is intended for comparing economic output over time.
  • W.P. Putrajaya is subsumed under W.P. Kuala Lumpur in the official state GDP series and therefore does not appear as a separate state value.
  • The Supranational category is excluded because it contains GDP that cannot be attributed to a specific state.
  • GDP measures production within a state; it is not household income, wages or government revenue.
