25 years of school bullying records — and why one line would be misleading

The most credible long-run view is not one seamless line. Showing overlapping source eras makes revisions and definition changes visible instead of manufacturing a false trend.

How the numbers were calculated

PulseKita compiles four historical source eras instead of forcing them into one continuous statistical series: a KPM 2006 archive cited in academic records for 2000–2005; KPM Parliamentary case replies covering 2005–2015; later SSDM counts of students committing bullying for 2012–2021; and the current KPM SSDM bullying-case series for 2021–2025. Overlap years are intentionally shown as separate bars when published values or units differ.

• 2000 is the only derived historical point: KPM was cited as recording 5,909 cases across 2000–2005, while the published 2001–2005 table sums to 5,192; PulseKita therefore displays 717 as the arithmetic remainder and labels it derived.
• The early KPM-cited archive reports 1,272 for 2005, while KPM's later 2011 Parliamentary reply reports 3,814. The sources do not explain the large difference, so PulseKita does not splice them into one line.
• KPM's 2016 Parliamentary reply reports 2,825 for 2014 and 2,968 for 2015; a later SSDM extraction reports 2,906 and 3,011 students respectively.
• The later SSDM series is explicitly a count of students committing bullying, whereas the current 2021–2025 KPM series is described as bullying cases. Equal-looking numbers do not make the statistical units interchangeable.
• 2020 and 2021 were affected by pandemic-era school closures and movement controls.
• KPM has also stated that increased awareness and reporting compliance can raise recorded counts; this chart should not be read as a direct prevalence rate.
