Method & notes
The result is more comparable by scale, but still depends heavily on each council's collection and reporting system.
METHOD & LIMITATIONSHow the numbers were calculated
PulseKita divides each PBT's full-year 2024 recyclable-waste collection tonnage by its DOSM MyCensus 2020 local-authority population and multiplies by 1,000. Because the denominator is from 2020, the result is a normalized comparison indicator rather than a precise 2024 per-capita rate.
- Population normalization improves scale comparability but does not remove differences in collection systems or reporting coverage.
- Collected recycling tonnage is not the same as household recycling behaviour or recycling rate.
- The MBSJ published tonnage remains much larger than other councils even after population adjustment; PulseKita preserves the source figure without interpreting why.
- A contemporaneous PBT population estimate would be preferable if DOSM publishes one on matching local-authority boundaries.
