Method & notes
IN BRIEF

Large states can rank highly partly because of population and urban scale, so the count should be read together with population before making risk comparisons.

METHOD & LIMITATIONS

How the numbers were calculated

PulseKita excludes national aggregate rows, then sums the official PDRM/DOSM police-district crime-type records within each state and year.

  • These are absolute counts, not crime rates adjusted for population.
  • The source defines the measure as actual crimes where a conviction was secured.
  • W.P. Putrajaya is included under W.P. Kuala Lumpur and W.P. Labuan under Sabah in the source.
  • Unreported crime is not included.
