Method & notes
Startup formation, shutdowns and survival should be read together; a faster birth rate alone does not describe business health.
METHOD & LIMITATIONSHow the numbers were calculated
PulseKita uses DOSM Business Demography headline rates for each reference year. Five-year survival compares different enterprise birth cohorts: businesses born in 2019 and surviving to 2024 versus businesses born in 2020 and surviving to 2025.
- Enterprise birth rate and enterprise death rate describe business demography, not revenue growth or profitability.
- The five-year survival figures are cohort measures and should not be interpreted as the same businesses improving from one year to the next.
- The business-demography universe differs from Economic Census establishment counts; do not combine the totals as if they are identical concepts.
