IN BRIEF

Malaysia's published 2023 homicide rate is 1 per 100,000, below the world benchmark of 5.

METHOD & LIMITATIONS

How the numbers were calculated

PulseKita compares only published 2023 values for the World Bank/UNODC homicide indicator. Lao PDR is excluded because a same-year value was not verified. Lower values mean fewer intentional homicides per 100,000 people, but this single indicator is not a general crime or public-safety score.

  • Malaysia's published 2023 value is 1 intentional homicide per 100,000 people.
  • The World Bank world benchmark shown for 2023 is 5 per 100,000.
  • Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Singapore are displayed as 0 after World Bank's published rounding; this should not be interpreted as literally zero incidents.
  • Crime definitions, reporting systems and justice processes differ, so PulseKita does not turn this into an overall 'safest country' ranking.
