Sources, limitations and how to read

Values are operating and development totals matched to the ministry codes in MOF's 2026 expenditure book, not total federal government expenditure. Charged expenditure, pensions and debt service are not classified as ministries.

2017–2018 data come from MOF's 2020 book, 2019–2020 from the 2022 book, 2021–2022 from the 2024 book and 2023–2026 from the 2026 book. Ministry responsibilities and names changed. These totals do not establish administration-level causality.

These values are nominal ringgit. Use the separate CPI page for 2019–2024 approximate real-term comparisons. The 2025–2026 estimates are not realized spending.

Example restructuring: MESTECC was created after Malaysia's 2018 general election by combining science, energy and environment responsibilities from several ministries. We suppress automatic growth calculations crossing this change. MOSTI official history ↗
